Caterpillars and Butterflies

Last night right before sleep time Callum and I had a conversation, as we always do, in the twilight (after Darren and I have both read him a couple of books and i've turned off the light). It went something like this:

Callum: I want to learn about caterpillars
Me: Okay mate then we'll learn all about them tomorrow
Callum: And butterflies?
Me: Of course :)
Callum: When?
Me: After breakfast
Callum: STRAIGHT after breakfast?
Me: Yep
Callum:Are you sure you will remember? you should write a list
Me: Okay then Darling, I will write a list in a minute.
Callum: You can't! I have to make the list first
Me: Then I will wait for you til the morning
Callum: I can make the list now, I just need some paper!
Me: Nice try Mr Callum. Sleeping time, I love you, goodnight
Callum: *in a very dramatic voice* But I will just NEVER get to sleep!!! (something he says every single night for the past 3 or 4 months depite the fact he nearly always falls asleep within 3 minutes of me leaving the room hehe)
Me: I'm sure you will Darling
Callum: But I am SUPER CALLUM! and I don't get my energy fom sleeping and food like everyone else, I just need food.
Me: Even Super Callum needs to sleep
Callum: NO! Super Callum needs to stay up ALL night and watch everyone to make sure they're sleeping
Me: I don't think so
Callum: Why?
Me: Goodnight Callum, I love You
Callum: Mum?
Me: Yes Callum
Callum: I love You

I treasure that time in the evening, Callum always makes me laugh

This morning we made a caterpillar out of an egg carton
which Callum painted lots of bright colours

After he dried in the sunshine we gave him some eyes

And added some string (which I quickly fingerstitched as Callum was most impatient to play with his new toy)

He was ready to play with :)

*I know that last few photos are blurred but they really capture Callum's mood =CRAZY= hehehehe There was no way he was going to sit still- too excited

After callum had played with his caterpillar friend for a while (who is a boy and named "Polla" apparently)we looked at some footage on youtube- one video of a monarch caterpallar making a cocoon and another of one emerging as a butterfly.
Then we looked at some photos of different types of caterpillars

here's a few of our favourites that we picked together

Sometimes we forget just how beautiful the little things in life are but our children are here to remind. Hope everyone's having as much fun as we are today

Pieces of Me

Not many people get to see the real me. well they do actually but just pieces of me, the pieces i choose to share or the pieces i let fall
here's some random pieces of me

*I Love purple and i wear it nearly every day. I can't remember it ever not being my favorite colour, it was even the colour of my school uniform at primary schol and it makes me happy. Hence the name of the blog

*I have always wanted to grow my own organic veggie garden. It is finally happening
and i feel truely blessed to be able to feed my family good healthy, organic, fesh food that we watched and loved and cared for from a tiny seed. I feel more in touch with the earth, we are all more excited about food and Callum is learning many valuable life skills and he is loving every second of it

*Sometimes i like to sit up late after everyone else has gone to bed and just listen to the old farmhouse creaking or the wind blowing, the ticking of the clock, a mopoke outside or the dog rolling over on the door step. the sounds of home. They sooth me and bring the calm i need to still my thoughts before i go to bed

*I don't like corn chips or tacos

*I think long fingernails on men are gross- unless they are a guitar player then it's perfectly fine

*My son was born during a wild storm at 4:50am in April 2007 after 9 and a half hours. He weighed 9pound. It was the most incredible experience of my life and i'm proud of the fact that i did it drug free and without swearing!I really listened to my body and was focused and found it a positive experience and 5 minutes after i had given birth to my beautiful boy i said "I could do that again!" I think the doctor and midwife thought i was insane. Apparently nobody says that lol.
I would love to have a home birth one day

More "pieces of Me" later Lovely people. xo

One Small Change

Good eveningI've just discovered a new blog that i find inspiring so i wanted to share. It's called one small change and is about a family who decided to make one change a month for a whole year to make themselves a greener cleaner family and they've challenged their readers to do the same so i'm going to join
and we will start January by aiming to grow more good organic food and make new recipes from that food. We only started our little vegie patch a few months ago and are just starting to see the results now so i am very excited to get to know other people who think the same as us and maybe get a few ideas and be a little bit more inspired :)Hopefully it will help me get a few followers reading this blog too by becoming more involved in the blogging community
You can find the One Small Change Blog here: .

Okay so far this month we have harvested lots. here's a few photos

Happy Blogging xo

Daily Harvest

I couldn't help but come back in to show you this morning's harvest! :)

The sweet and Striped Cucumber in the middle is the star of the show. I resisted picking this beauty for days! He's going to my friend. I hope she and her family enjoy this bounty, so sweet and yummy.

I loved the textured stripes. Can't get enough

The zucchini flowers are just stunning and i don't think most people realise just how beautiful vegetables are.
Have a great day everybody and enjoy the sunshine xo

Fresh Farm food

Yesterday we picked our first decent harvest of corn (Golden Bantam- an open pollinated heirloom variety) and some more zuccinis too

I decided it was time to cook up one of my "everything" omelettes

Chopped tomato and capsicum, grated cheese. grated Carrot and zucchini and of course fresh corn kernels too

There must always be some garlic and onion

And some herbs(fresh from the garden) and spices

There was also bacon and eggs(fresh from my Mum's chookies)but unfortunately i got carried away cooking and completely forgot to take any more photos haha. Next time!
It was yummy though. I'm off to see what the garden will provide today. Bye xo

The Garden

It will take me a few posts to update everyone about the garden but for now i'll just post a few pictures taken over the last couple of months

Happy gardening everybody :)

Crafty Fun

Back in August my Lovely Man let me loose in the local craft shop (dangerous I know! hehe, and that's why he's so lovely)for my birthday
This is what i bought

Patchwork quilt supplies!!!

I made a few little squares for the patchwork hanging quilt that i want to make for our dining room wall

but I haven't done any lately. I get bored easily and it's usual for me to be doing a few projects at once. Working on finishing things though.
I have been using the material and embroidery thread for other things though. I made a little velvet lined bag for my Tarot cards (more on those later) and i am working on a handbag recycled from an old pair of denim three-quarter shorts. Look out for a future post featuring those :)

I also recieved these slippers for my birthday and they are certainly me.

Gorgeous aren't they
